Smart Class in Mobile Devices — a Path breaking Initiative in Kandhamal District of Odisha
Aveti, one of Odisha’s pioneering educational start-ups has recently made inroads into the education initiatives of government of Odisha. Till the end of January 2022, 108 schools from 9 districts have successfully registered and are using Aveti Smart Class content. It is heartening to say that these schools have used more than 45,000 minutes of content effectively.
However, now there is a roadblock. At the onset of the 3rd wave of the Corona pandemic, the State Government of Odisha has closed down all of its schools and educational institutions for an indefinite period.
Against this crisis, Aveti has reached out to students with yet another option. In this option, the smart class shall reach students instead of schools.
With the logistic support of the district administration of Kandhamal, led by the district collector, DEO and school teachers of the district, Aveti has implemented an offline (no internet required) digital learning space for the month of January as a pilot experiment.
Kandhamal is a tribal-dominated forested mountainous district in the Eastern Ghats of Odisha. With no airports and railways, Kandhamal is mostly rural and remote.
It has been always raised that students in small towns and villages of Odisha don’t have access to smartphone devices. However, during the pilot, we discovered that more than 70% of students in small towns of Kandhamal, such as Phulbani, Tumadibandh, Baliguda and Udayagiri have access to smartphone devices.
The highlights of the Kandhamal experiment include cutting-edge content delivery and regular monitoring of the implementation of the programme.
The digital content that is provided by Aveti consists of concepts explanation using micro-videos followed by asking thought-provoking questions and problem-solving exercises. Some of the bright students are also felicitated by Aveti Team.
Teachers Capacity Building is yet another core initiative of Aveti, which is carried out through daily zoom sessions
In the monitoring system, a daily status report is generated and shared with all the stakeholders, such as DEOP, HM and District Collectors. Those students found little weak, their cases are reported to their respective teachers for further remedial action.
Aveti’s technology-driven initiative is found as one of the most valuable solutions to meet the current crises. We hope it becomes a trendsetter in the new age educational system and become a role model not only for Kandhamal or Odisha but for all over India.
